3D Printing in school

SCAN DATA
Softwares and Apps for 3D scanning

SCANNERS
Creaform : http://www.creaform3d.com/en (School’s lab scanner)
POLY GROUPS:
Select poly groups: control + shift + click on the group.
To invert selection: control + shift + click and drag on the document.
Show all groups: control + shift + click on the document.
World axis:
Z axis: blue line
Y axis: green line
X axis: red line
Positive direction: coming towards you in space.
Negative direction: going further in space.
PREVIEW: it enables you to show you its orientation and move the model and reposition it where you want. Move the model in the preview window until desired position and then press “store”. This is much faster than using the transpose line.
By changing the color of the original scan it will give you a visual cue of the differences between the two models. Use the transpose line to align the models.
To scale the model without using the alignment put the transpose line over the tip of the nose.
Once you scaled the two models, use the move brush to move around the mesh and match it as close as possible to the 3D scan. Once you have the mesh as close as possible to the liking of your scan, use the project button in the subtool palette. Make sure to create subdivision levels as you project, so it lets the mesh adapt to the details of the scan.

Create insert mesh: Press “B” for brush and press the “create insert mesh” button. Anything that you create on Zbrush can be made into a brush using this function.
To adapt a mesh to a surface: Select your insert mesh brush that you created. Go to the modifiers menu in the brush palette and raise the projection strength slider. Use the ZIntensity slider to make the geometry adapt to the surface.
ZREMESHER
Geometry palette > ZRemesher
Target Polygons Count slider: lets you control the amount of polygons in the geometry.
ZRemesher button: cleans geometry / atl + click: alternate algorithm (geometry flow).
You want to have a solid silhouette with the least amount of polygons.

ZREMESHER GUIDES brush: pushes the geometry to the direction you want it to go. Draw them out over the geometry. To delete press “alt” and draw over the live you want to delete.
AdaptiveSize slider: it allows to calculate the range in geometry around the model. 50 is the preferred number to have it on. The lower slider goes the less size difference between polygons.
Curve Strength: Allows to force geometry flow around the curves drawn with the ZRemesher Guides brush.
FreezeBorder button: next to ZRemesher button. It allows the zremesher to maintain the edge fidelity.
FreezePolygroups button: Remeshes keeping the polygroups.
Use Polypaint button: Allows you to tell Zbrush to be twice as dense (polygons) where the poly paint is. The slider allows you to measure the density in the geometry.

RESOLUTION CHART:
1024x1024: 1K
2048x2048: 2K

For any kind of print you will need to fill up this kind of paper, that can be found in the 3D printing room. Each printer has its own kind of paper to fill up ( like the blue one- for the Object printer). You will fill it up while setting up your project for print. Ask people that work there for advices- they are nice and ready for communication.
The price really depends on the size and material that  you are going to use- you will be able to know the price only after you'll set up the printing ( as it counts how much material will be used for the actual thing + for the support).
For object they have 2 kinds of material - matte and glossy. Discuss what kind of material is better for your print. The system places objects on the tray automatically, but watch out and adjust the parts in a way to protect details ( like don't put the side with the most details downwards as you will cut off the supporting material from this side).
